B Corp Certification

In 2015, we became the first B Corp law firm in Canada. We completed our bienniel recertification process in October 2017 and are delighted to announce that we increased our original certification score by nearly 20 points! Then in 2019, we were recognized as be among the top 10% of all B Corps taking care of our workers. We vote every day for a better world through the way we treat our employees. To learn more about our (re)certification and our B Corp and other successes, read our blog post.

What is B Corp?

B Corps are a new type of company that use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. B Corp certification is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk.

To become certified, we evaluated how our practices impact our employees, our community, the environment, and our customers. We met B Lab’s rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

Why B Corp?

At Kent Employment Law, we are motivated by a desire to “do good”. As a law firm working to enable positive workplace relationships, certification allows us to model for our clients the types of sustainable business practices we help them to adopt.

As of February 2021, we are a member of a community of over 3,800 Certified B Corps around the globe (approximately 300 in Canada), including Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, Hootsuite, Etsy, Mills Office Productivity, Seventh Generation, Business Development Bank of Canada, Kleen Kanteen and Danone. We are proud to join them in redefining success in business, so that one day everyone uses business as a force for good.

And as the first Canadian law firm to become B Corp certified, we hope to inspire other law firms across the country to join it in our campaign to B the Change.
