B Corp Certification
In 2015, we became the first B Corp law firm in Canada. We are currently undergoing our bi-annual recertification process and will post the results here once we receive them!
What is B Corp?
B Corps are a new type of company that use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. B Corp certification is to business what Fair Trade certification is to coffee or USDA Organic certification is to milk.
To become certified, we evaluated how our practices impact our employees, our community, the environment, and our customers. We met B Lab’s rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
At Kent Employment Law, we are motivated by a desire to “do good”. As a law firm working to enable positive workplace relationships, certification allows us to model for our clients the types of sustainable business practices we help them to adopt.
Today, we are a member of a community of well over 2,000 Certified B Corps around the globe, including Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, Hootsuite, Etsy, Mills Office Productivity, Seventh Generation, Business Development Bank of Canada, and Ethical Bean Coffee. We are proud to join them in redefining success in business, so that one day everyone uses business as a force for good.
And as the first Canadian law firm to become B Corp certified, we hope to inspire other law firms across the country to join it in our campaign to B the Change.

Kent Employment Law is also a proud member of LOCO BC, a non-profit local business alliance working to strengthen communities, grow the local economy and build strong, sustainable businesses by encouraging a shift in local purchasing by consumers, businesses and institutions/government. Like LOCO, we believe that economic, social and environmental sustainability form “the bedrock of healthy and resilient communities.”
