Kelowna Launch 2017: Recap

By Geoff Mason and Wendy Woloshyn.

There’s no question we love a good party.

Which is why we were delighted to have a reason to play host to the Okanagan community last month at the official opening of our Kelowna office.

A diverse and dynamic group representing a variety of industries, our guests made our job easy as they welcomed us to the KEL Kent Employment Law Kelowna Launchneighbourhood with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. In return, we kept them fuelled with delicious food and drink offerings from local businesses El Taquero, Cannery Brewing, Tree BrewingRigamarole, Grey Monk Estate and See Ya Later Ranch, and inspired by the words of special guest City Councillor Ryan Donn.

Before hearing from Councillor Donn, KEL Founder Simon Kent told the story of the firm’s origins and its growth from a one-man (Simon) operation to a multi-location (Vancouver, Kelowna and Victoria) firm. He and Kelowna lawyer David Brown also explained KEL’s philosophy and purpose, highlighting our commitment to “sustainable employment” and community-building and our progressive approach to legal services.

Simon then introduced Councillor Donn, who spoke about Kelowna’s growth and its many opportunities for the business community, sharing his vision for the city’s future. He discussed how KEL’s values – innovation, creativity, and people-driven business – align well with his ideas for developing Kelowna, making the firm a natural fit for the Okanagan.

And our guests seemed to agree. Those we spoke with expressed genuine excitement about our efforts to promote sustainable employment relationships and help employers thrive. We are truly thrilled at the prospect of collaborating with local organizations to create positive and purposeful workplace change.

We’ve invited them to spread the word that we are open for business in the Okanagan, and hope you will too!
